Cool Breeze Painterly

Depending on the time of year, a walk around the pond near my house can reveal a few surprises. In addition to the usual snakes and mosquitoes, you might find a huge snapping turtle, a calling red-winged blackbird, a shy heron winging away, Canada geese and mallard ducks and their goslings, water lilies and some pretty wild flowers.  Also frequently seen are small groups of deer, an occasional fox … and, though no one is quite sure whether or not to believe me … I think I saw a coyote a few years ago.

But best of all, if your timing is right, the wild dogwood tree will be in bloom.

This particular image started out as a photograph which I took with the Nikon D40x and the 55-200mm vr Nikkor lens several years ago. I’ve always liked the composition that Mother Nature and God put together, and recently decided to have some fun with it in Corel Painter 2015.  I digitally hand-painted it and added a lovely texture from Karen Burns, all of which gave it a slightly impressionistic feel.

I’m enjoying the Corel Painter 2015 program very much.  After having had Corel Painter 11 for several years but finding it and its needs a bit much for my previous computer, getting to know and play with this version now is big fun.  I don’t know if I’m going to continue to focus on digital painting in the future, but for now, I’m having a blast.  This is kind of unusual for me as I generally find a new technique or style, figure it out, master it, then move on to something else.  After going overboard on edit sessions, lots of times I’ll feel the need to do some clean, straight photography, I guess to sort of cleanse my artistic palette.  But I’m not feeling that yet.

So I hope you’ll bear with me … no telling what I’ll try next!!
